Summer Home Maintenance Checklist

Summer is in full swing and it’s the best time to start tackling some of those items on your home maintenance checklist that you’ve been putting off for warmer weather.

There is a plethora of things you can do to your home, both inside and out, to spruce it up just in time for summer parties and visiting family. Check out this list of tips and project ideas to spruce up your home and keep it looking nice all year long.

  • Exterior Paint Touch-Ups
This quick and easy home maintenance tip can boost your home’s exterior appearance while covering any wear and tear. If you aren’t sure about which exact paint color is best for your house, you can ask a local professional to help you select your color.
  • Clean or Replace Window Screens
Washing the screen of your windows can drastically improve the look of them. Take off all of your window screens and scrub them with hot soapy water to remove any dust or residue. If they are too dirty to be cleaned, you might want to consider replacing them.
  • Clean Driveways, Patio, and Walkways
With harsh winter behind us, we can finally clean off all the gunk that has gathered the past couple of months. Before you break out the power washer, check for cracks in your concrete. Once you’ve inspected the area, you can get to washing!
  • Wipe Down and Clean Baseboards
Your baseboards are too often overlooked when it comes time to clean.  No one wants to get on their hands and knees to scrub baseboards, but this should be done at least once a year. All you need to clean them is a damp cloth and some TLC!
  • Attic and Basement Inspections
You should be sure to check your attic and basement at least once a year for any signs of pests, insects, water leaks, mold, or mildew.
  • Clean your AC Filter
This is an essential part of your checklist if you want to stay cool this summer. Your air conditioner filter should be cleaned every two weeks, especially if it’s running on high in the summer. You can clean the filter by simply washing it with warm water or by using a vacuum cleaner. Just be sure the filter is completely dry before re-installing it!
  • Clean Grill
It’s cookout time! Get ready for all of your summer barbecues and parties by cleaning and repairing your grill. You can scrub the grates with liquid grill cleaner and clean the burners as well as their covers with a wire brush.

Summer should be for outdoor parties and gatherings, but you need to get your house in order first!
