During this time of year, people tend to reflect on their past and look ahead to their future. We at GMS Werks are doing just that by looking back on the best kitchen trends from 2019 and the trends that started to fall to the wayside. Then we will be looking ahead to 2020 and seeing what trends to expect.
First, let us look at where we started in 2019, before moving in to 2020.
In 2019, some popular kitchen trends included having industrial countertops Omaha like concrete and wood to create a vintage vibe. Mixing and matching metals became trendy and they contrasted with textured countertops.
The most popular finish from 2017 to 2018 was rose gold, but it started to disappear in 2019. It was replaced with other metals such as pewter, gunmetal and more. This was especially true for sink hardware, because unique sinks became a focal point for the kitchen.
Open shelving remained popular from previous years while stark white kitchens started to become a thing of the past. People started to add pops of color either through the appliances or cabinets to create bold statements that their guests couldn’t forget.
Lastly, vent hoods became integrated, which added a sleek, modern look to the kitchen. Now as we move forward into the new year, which of these trends will move on with us and which will be left behind in 2019?
Some of the 2019 trends that are here to stay include; open shelving and pops of color throughout the kitchen. These pops of color will come from a variety of sources such as the backsplash tiles and in unexpected places like the range in the upcoming year.
Contrasting sharply with the white kitchens of years past, kitchens in 2020 will introduce some darker colors as well such as navy and black. Combining black with wood especially, can add a rustic charm to any kitchen.
While textured countertops Omaha will continue to be popular, the materials will shift from concrete to natural stone, especially veined marble. Another growing trend will be to either have a slab backsplash or take it a step further by extending the countertop to become the backsplash for a seamless, modern look.
For those who have the space, double islands will start to trend. While focal sinks will continue to be popular in 2020, pewter and gunmetal will be replaced with a gold finish.
Vent hoods will be treated in two different ways in 2020, either they will be integrated like this year or steel hoods will become accent pieces. Other appliances like the doors for the refrigerator and the dishwasher will be designed to match the surrounding cabinetry.
As they say, everything is a cycle and trends tend to go almost as quickly as they came. That is why it is so important to create a kitchen that will stand the test of time. Give us a call and we can renovate the kitchen and/or bathroom to help create a luxurious, dream space that will last for years to come.
