2021 Tile Trends

Tomorrow we begin April; oh how 2021 seems to be flying by! As we continue to progress through this year, there is still plenty of time to get your home renovation projects done! A main project that many homeowners have been starting as of recent is replacing the tile in places like their  kitchen and bathrooms! Just like pretty much every home decor, there are certain styles, colors and overall tile designs that are trending this year.

At GMS Werks, we specialize in natural stone countertops as well as kitchen and bathroom tile. Below, we detail some of the current tile trends homeowners are going crazy over!

Kitchen Tile Trends

Ceiling high backsplash

Traditionally speaking, kitchen backsplashes usually go no further up than the bottom of the kitchen cabinets. Even in tile places where cabinets aren’t located, tile usually stopped at the same horizontal spot. However, a recent trend has been to take your kitchen tile backsplash all the way up to the ceiling. Higher backsplashes have been seen to unite all aspects of your kitchen space, as well as lighten up the kitchen with the reflective qualities of the tile itself.

Mirrored or metallic finishes

Both mirrored and metallic tile finishes are becoming more and more popular each year. What homeowners love about these two tile finishes is that they are unique yet subtle. The way light shines off these tile finishes is absolutely incredible, and it only gets better when you implement more natural light into your kitchen.

Natural

Lastly, a trend that has been popular in recent years has been to bring a sense of nature into your kitchen backsplash. This has especially been true since the pandemic started over a year ago. Many homeowners have begun implementing natural stone backsplashes as a way to make their kitchen feel a little bit more “naturey”. Natural stone as a backsplash can come in a matte or horned finish, and really gives your kitchen a natural, luxurious look!

Bathroom Tile Trends

Spa style

When it comes to bathroom tile, many homeowners are starting to choose a spa design. In an effort to bring a sense of sky, forest, sand and sea into the design, homeowners have been using soft blues, greens and textured neutrals to bring a spa-feel into their bathroom. These tones bring a sense of calmness and relaxation into the room.

Big and bold

Large tile has become a very popular choice in the bathrooms of many. More and more homeowners are deciding to go big and bold with their bathroom tile design, which offers a striking appearance that it’s sure to catch your attention. Many of the large tile designs are made of porcelain but reflect a natural marble tone and style, making your bathroom look elegant and clean!

Hexagon shaping

Lastly, just like previous years, hexagon shaped tile is continuing to grow in popularity. Hexagon tile gives homeowners a great alternative to traditional rectangle or metro tiles, and comes in a variety of styles, colors and sizes.
